UW Gold Semifinalists Announced

Top University of Wyoming students have been designated as semifinalists for UW Gold distinction, which replaces traditional Homecoming royalty.

UW Gold is sponsored by Cardinal Key, the junior class honor society. Students are nominated on the basis of continued success in academic studies, community service, and leadership. The tradition is a way for leading students to be recognized by their peers, the university and the state.

Six UW Gold winners will be announced at the Homecoming Sing Thursday, Oct. 14. The winners will participate in numerous Homecoming activities. They will ride in the Homecoming parade and will be introduced at halftime of the UW-Utah football game on Saturday, Oct. 16.

The UW Gold semifinalists are:

Buffalo -- Molly Adami, social work and physiology.

Cheyenne -- Christopher Averill, chemistry; Diana Wilson, mathematics.

Douglas -- Elizabeth Brown, political science.

Gillette -- Sarah Gregory, molecular biology and physiology.

Lander -- Michael Stewart, criminal justice.

Laramie -- Matthew Parish, secondary education.

Riverton -- Seth Mathern, Spanish and physiology.

Saratoga -- Michaela Uhling, elementary education.

Stratham, N.H. -- Ellen Platte, nursing.

Wellington, Colo. -- Ben Wiebers, secondary math education.

Wilmington, Mass. -- Danielle Bamberg, nursing.
