Virginia Arthur Retirement Reception Friday

April 11, 2011

A retirement reception for Financial Aid Specialist Virginia Arthur is from 2-3 p.m. Friday, April 15, in Room 244 of Knight Hall.

When she began working in 1983 as a part-time benefitted employee for Student Financial Aid, Arthur had to type every scholarship letter to be sent out to students. That fall, she went to work full-time as a file clerk, manually recording and maintaining all of the files on every student receiving any type of financial aid. She also worked as Pell Grant assistant, scholarship assistant and Work Study coordinator. Along the way, Arthur served on Staff Senate and the Student Employment Training Program Committee.

Among the honors she received were the "Unsung Hero - Student Affairs Division" award in 1988 and the Student Affairs "Outstanding General Staff Award" for 1991-92.

"I have had a lot of great supervisors who have helped me with the learning process," Arthur says. "I especially would like to thank Kathy Bobbitt, who has been a very supportive supervisor as well as a great friend. Thanks also to all those I have met and worked with along the way."
