Campus Construction Update for Week of May 8

These are among the construction activities scheduled May 8-14 at the University of Wyoming:

Willett Closure: Willett Drive between 19th and 22nd streets will be closed to through traffic May 9-22 for utility work on Willett. Access to the Centennial Complex and Athletic Facilities will be on Willett from the west.

Recreation Field Closure: The recreation fields at 22nd and Armory streets will be closed to the public until Aug. 1 for field improvements and lighting.

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

State Fiscal Stabilization Fund Modernization, Renovation and Repairs (Scheduled completion, fall 2011) -- The project focuses on major maintenance items, ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) improvements and classroom improvements. Fire alarm modifications are ongoing in the Agriculture and Animal Science buildings, and will start in the Engineering Building. Classroom work, carpeting and ceiling tile installation is under way in the classrooms worked on in spring semester. Audio/visual equipment will be installed when it arrives. Demolition will start in the classrooms that will be worked on this summer. Mechanical modifications are ongoing in the Physical Sciences Building. Ceiling removal will start in the Pharmacy Building.

War Memorial Stadium Parking Lot (Completion August 2011) -- The parking lot and 20th Street from the stadium to Grand Avenue will be closed until August 15. For commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 7, parking will be available in the Crane-Hill lot and via shuttles from the lot at 30th and Willett to the east side of the Arena-Auditorium. Irrigation and storm-water control work continues in Tailgate Park, the fencing and base will be reused for temporary parking in the Summit View area.

Wyoming Hall -- Army ROTC is scheduled to move to the second floor this week.

Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center Landscaping -- Completion of the exterior landscaping will begin May 9 with topsoil preparation and sprinkler systems installation. Planting of landscaping stock and completion of the hard cape will follow.

Indoor Tennis Facility (Armory Road across from Little League Complex, scheduled completion: May 13) -- HVAC controls are being installed, and Information Technology is installing wiring.

Energy Resources Center (1020 Lewis Street, scheduled to be completed in summer, 2012) -- The project's contractor will mobilize to begin construction. The construction office is set up on site. Fencing will be reconfigured to secure the site and storage area. Lewis Street will remain closed during construction.

ESCo Project (Energy Services Company) -- Long Energy Services Company will not be on campus until May 16.

Downey Hall Renovation -- Window replacement will continue. Windows have been installed at the sleeping rooms on the seventh and eighth floors. The contractor is completing punch list items.

Visual Arts Center (22nd Street and Willett Drive near the Centennial Complex, scheduled completion is late fall, 2011) -- Concrete foundation wall work is nearing completion. Excavation and underground utility work including off site utility work is proceeding. Watch for this work outside the contained construction area. There will be frequent construction traffic for delivery of materials throughout the week. Additional materials and equipment will continue to arrive on site for continuing masonry work, placement of floor slabs and interior construction. Construction of interior wall framing and installation of mechanical/electrical systems is under way, and a concrete pour is planned for the ground floor east. Roofing is ongoing and precast wall panels will be competed on the west. Be aware that there will be construction traffic throughout the construction period. Foot and vehicular traffic will not be permitted across the site.

Summit View Apartment Deconstruction Phase II -- Final grading for the two blocks north of Arrowhead and east of Crane will be complete this week. Part of the six-block fencing has been removed along Crane and Arrowhead, but still remains along 22nd and Willett, so pedestrian and vehicle traffic will still need to go around this area.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week:

Indoor Practice Facility -- Insulation and sealing of the clearstory is scheduled, the field will be inaccessible for the week.

Geology Building -- Re-roofing and abatement of shingles will begin. Staging and fall-protection scaffold will be on north and south sides, use west entrance of Earth Sciences Building. Prexy's Pasture north sidewalk and northwest campus service drive will be used for vehicular access and deliveries. Please use caution around equipment.

Education Building -- Re-roofing project will begin with staging on the south west side. Prexy's Pasture north sidewalk and northwest campus service drive will be used for vehicular access and deliveries. Please use caution around equipment.

Crane Hill Lot -- Work to construct new ADA parking spaces, curb ramps and sidewalks will begin at the Crane Hill parking lot. Work areas will be west of the Corbett Building and south of the Fine Arts Center. Traffic control and barricades will be placed in these areas. The work is scheduled to be completed the week of May 23.

Arts & Sciences -- Painting is being done in the northwest and southwest stairways, use caution in these areas. Both these stairways should be complete by the end of the week.

Physical Sciences Building -- Repairs to the chilled water line northeast of the Physical Sciences Building and south of the Geology Building are complete. Sod and landscaping will be completed when sod is available.

Stimulus Project -- Abatement activities continue in the mechanical rooms of Engineering, Geology and Agriculture buildings. Insulation and painting is occurring in the Aven Nelson, Classroom and Arts & Sciences mechanical rooms.

Aven Nelson Building -- Window replacement continues on the south side of the building. The west parking lot has been closed and fenced for construction staging throughout the project. The west entrance is closed, but will be available for emergency exit if needed; use other entrances to the building. Use caution around work areas.

Hoyt Hall -- Work should complete this week on the west side of Hoyt Hall to build an ADA ramp from the sidewalk north toward the Student Health building. Barricades will remain in place for a few more days until the concrete cures.

15th Street -- Construction of curb, gutter and a new sidewalk on the east side of 15th Street from the north end of Greenhill Cemetery to north of Harney Street is complete. Cleanup should be complete by next week. New asphalt will be placed within the next couple of weeks, once it becomes available. Please be considerate of the workers in this area.

Campus -- Activation of irrigation sprinkler systems across campus is ongoing. Please use caution around potential icy areas on sidewalks that result from overspray.

Campus -- The house foundation at 9th and Grand will be filled and graded as weather permits. Please use caution to avoid heavy equipment.

Snow Removal -- Snow and ice removal will occur as needed. Use caution around snow removal equipment and be safe walking, riding and driving on the snow.
