August 22, 2011

The University of Wyoming was the largest school group represented and was second in total funds raised during the recent Race for the Cure at the State Capitol in Cheyenne.

UW's 141 participants raised more than $5,530 to help fight breast cancer. In all, more than 2,000 individuals on 79 teams raised more than $200,000 during this year's race.

"Thanks to everyone who contributed their time and money for this worthwhile cause," says Wilma Varga, assistant to the provost and Team UW captain. "It is wonderful to see the UW community come together for such an important event."

The Race for the Cure benefits the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, an organization supporting breast cancer research. Since its inception in 1982, the organization has raised more than $1.5 billion for research, education and health services, making it the world's largest breast cancer charity.
