Three UW Employees Selected for Latest Leadership Wyoming Class

June 7, 2021

Three University of Wyoming employees are among 42 residents selected for the 2022 Leadership Wyoming class. The statewide program is celebrating its 21st anniversary this year.

The UW employees selected for the latest class are:

-- Brett Befus, a Foundation associate vice president.

-- Holly Krutka, School of Energy Resources executive director.

-- Tristan Wallhead, an associate dean and a professor in the College of Health Sciences.

“It was another very competitive applicant pool, and our selection committee worked hard to build a class representing the diverse communities, industries and perspectives of Wyoming,” says Mandy Fabel, Leadership Wyoming executive director. “We are very much looking forward to kicking off in August.”

Formed in 1999, Leadership Wyoming provides opportunities for a diverse group of approximately 40 Wyoming citizens to participate in a challenging and thought-provoking nine-month educational and professional development experience. Training sessions provide a practical, nonpartisan, hands-on understanding of a broad spectrum of public policy issues, and participants develop an appreciation for civil discourse, with lasting commitments to involvement at the state and local levels.

The program gives participants an opportunity to better understand general public policy issues, economic and social diversity, and the challenges facing the state. The experience prepares them, through shared mutual interests and the leadership skills developed, to be active in leading Wyoming, Fabel says.

A virtual orientation session for the latest class is July 8, followed by a retreat Aug. 5-7 in Pinedale and an education session at UW Sept. 1-3. Additional sessions and topics include natural resources in Gillette Oct. 13-15; health care in Casper Jan. 13-15; government in Cheyenne Feb. 17-19; manufacturing and technology in Rock Springs March 9-11; cultural and economic diversity in Lander April 6-8; and graduation/philanthropy in Sheridan May 4-6.

An alumni summit also is scheduled Nov. 16 in Cheyenne.

Since 2001, nearly 950 class members from throughout the state have graduated from Leadership Wyoming, including approximately 35 current UW faculty and staff members.
