True Moves to Director Role in UW College of Business Student Center

March 21, 2022

One of the strongest student advocates in the University of Wyoming’s College of Business has been tapped to lead the college’s Peter M. and Paula Green Johnson Student Success Center (GJSSC).

Taylor True, former associate director of the GJSSC, took on the role of director at the beginning of this month as Steve Russell, the center’s previous director, stepped into a new dean’s office role. True’s impact as director already has been noticeable, according to the college’s leadership team.

“Taylor is the engine that drives everything we do for our students,” says Russell, UW College of Business assistant dean. “She is not only the obvious person to continue leading the GJSSC team, but I believe that, under her leadership, the center will far exceed any expectations I may have had during my tenure as the director.”

Under True’s leadership, the GJSSC will continue to provide a seamless student experience ranging from prospective student programming to an expert model of academic advising and, ultimately, reenvisioning career services for business students.

“I am so thankful to work alongside of such an amazing team in the Green Johnson Student Success Center,” True says. “The people here inspire me every day with what they do for our students, and I look forward to us continuing to do great things moving forward.”

True became the College of Business’ first enrollment manager in 2017, after working three years in the UW Office of Admissions. Since then, she has driven the college’s enrollment strategy to support incoming freshmen, transfer and nontraditional students in feeling welcome and confident that they can succeed.

Her accomplishments have included creation of the college’s Scholars Program -- a cohort-based extracurricular program for high-achieving students; a streamlined process for distance students to engage in online business programs; and working closely with the college’s Student Leadership Committee on key student-based initiatives to ensure effective use of student fee dollars to deliver on the college’s mission of student success.

“Taylor’s new role is not only exciting for the growth and success of the GJSSC, but she also will be a part of the college’s leadership team, which will inevitably keep our college focused on what is most important to us -- our students,” Interim Dean Rob Godby says. “We truly look forward to her leadership and the impact she will have for years to come in this role.”

True earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and an MBA, both from UW.
