Virtual Uprooting Medea Tour Presentation April 5 at UW

The University of Wyoming’s Classics Program will host a virtual program featuring the “Uprooting Medea” tour at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 5.

Brown Arts Institute (BAI) visiting writer and producer Shivaike Shah will virtually discuss the Medea project’s development from a 2018 play adaptation by Francesca Amewudah-Rivers to a 2022 film directed by Riffy Ahmed. The Medea project questions race, belonging and identity through centering themes on the original Greek text.

Khameleon Productions, co-sponsored by BAI, sponsors the “Uprooting Medea” tour. Khameleon’s Medea project is a reimagination of Euripides’ tragedy with an all-global cast and crew that features original compositions, movement and spoken word commissioned by the company.

The presentation will explore the creative practice of elevating global-majority artists through multimedia forms including theater, film, music and poetry, and provides insight into an upcoming short film project.

The free virtual event can be accessed via the Zoom link here. Some material may not be suitable for all audience members.

The virtual program is supported by UW’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages and the Goode Family Fund.
