National Geographic Giant Traveling Map

Every year the Wyoming Geographic Alliance provides the Giant Traveling Map for teachers in Wyoming free of charge.  If you are interested in utilizing a Giant Traveling Map in your classroom please follow these steps:

  1. Learn more about the National Geographic Giant Traveling Maps by visiting http://nationalgeographic.org/education/giant-traveling-maps/.
  2. Meet with other faculty members at your school to decide which maps could be utilized most effectively and when the best dates for using these maps might be.  There are a limited number of maps so the WGA asks that all teachers requesting a map coordinate with other teachers to make sure the map is used for the entire time it is at your school.
  3. Discuss with your administration the need to utilize a large area like a gymnasium and ensure that a space is available.  Also, discuss the possibility of using the map in conjunction with community events in order to promote geography education in Wyoming.
  4. Complete the GTM Request Form by September 1st.
  5. If you would like help with lessons, please contact Germaine Wagner at gkwagner@outlook.com.

Since GTM requests and payments are made months in advance, in the event that a teacher/school cancels the map without finding a replacement user, a cancellation fee of $300 will need to be paid to WGA to help cover the rental.

In exchange for the rental cost of the map teachers are asked to complete a reflection form at the end of the rental period.  Additionally, the map will be delivered to you and you are asked to coordinate getting the map to the next school which has reserved the map.  If you have any additional questions, please contact Casey Yaden at wga@uwyo.edu
