Based upon current research on the effects of page size and download time, the upper recommended limit for an individual web page should be no greater than 34K. To achieve this file size, a comprehensive approach should be taken when designing each specific page. This means that not only should the HTML file be considered, but graphics, applets, and other additional features must be included in the page size. This is important to remember when designing, because certain features such as very large graphics and applets can dramatically increase the size of a page. Applets especially should be considered since they tend to be large in size and possibly overlooked since they may not be an actual part of the page, rather an external file.
