WyNETTE Phase I
Phase 1 of the WyNETTE project focuses on the development of infrastructure and the implementation of demonstration projects to create support for telehealth in the state. Under the guidance of an Advisory Committee representing a variety of disciplines, several demonstration projects are underway which illustrate basic telehealth infrastructure and address each of the primary objectives. WyNETTE seeks to support a wide array of technology applications in a variety of health care settings, geographically dispersed throughout Wyoming. Currently funded projects include enhancing primary care in public health clinics through real time video conferencing to enabling patients to actively engage in monitoring chronic disease condition using home health monitoring systems.
WyNETTE is working with teaching institutions and hospitals to extend state and nationally generated continuing medical education programs to busy rural health providers. By utilizing video conferencing and web conferencing capabilities at the point of practice, providers will be able to comply with Board of Medicine requirements, as well as increase and update skills.
By promoting the use of informatics as a resource, WyNETTE seeks to broaden provider access to evidence based information, standards of care and the most current and respected research in health care. WyNETTE has achieved this goal by offering a free subscription to web based resources, MD Consult, First Consult and Mosby’s Nursing Consult to every hospital and clinic in Wyoming through November, 2006.
In Fiscal Year 2004 the Office of Telemedicine at the Wyoming Department of Health received federal partnership assistance from the Department of Health and Human Services, Office for Advancement of Telehealth. The funding is being used to address the health challenges faced by Wyoming as a frontier state. |
