Wyoming Drug Abuse Resistance Education

Wyoming Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) was originally funded under The 21st Century State Incentive Grant (21 SIG) project. Funding under the 21 SIG project ended in 2006, but was sustained by the Wyoming Department of Health Substance Abuse Division for the school year 2006-2007. The program focuses on teaching anti-drug norms, drug resistance skills, and prevention-related information. It is implemented through out Wyoming in grades K-12th. WYSAC was funded to answer two questions: What is the impact of Wyoming D.A.R.E on youth participants and how is Wyoming D.A.R.E. perceived as working within the statewide prevention picture. WYSAC will train each D.A.R.E. administer on evaluation, and help gather and analyze process data and outcome data for the program. In addition, WYSAC will also conduct face-to-face interviews with community prevention partners including law enforcement, school personnel, other prevention professionals, community leaders, parents, and legislators. In spring of 2007, WYSAC will conduct focus groups to access the interactions, functions, and purpose of D.A.R.E. within the state of Wyoming. The results from the evaluation will assist the D.A.R.E. administers to improve programming and to plan for sustainability.
