Agricultural and Applied Economics

The Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics has served students, communities, and industry for over 90 years. Our mission spans high-quality undergraduate and graduate education, educational outreach across Wyoming, and applied research addressing real-world challenges in agriculture, natural resources, and rural development.

Our faculty are committed educators and researchers, focused on helping students think critically and solve practical problems. Whether through teaching, community engagement, or research in areas like environmental policy, market performance, and resource management, we aim to make a lasting impact.

With strong support from the University, the College of Agriculture, alumni, and industry partners, we are shaping the future of AgEcon while honoring our land-grant legacy.

What We Do

First and foremost, our highest responsibility is the education of our students. Though the department does much more as well! This includes educational outreach to the people and communities of the state of Wyoming. We provide resources and insight to communities, leaders, and citizens. Lastly, we seek to solve problems in agricultural and rural economies through our research. Our research aims are grounded in solving practical applications – whether they be in managing the environment, working in private industry or helping government. The AgEcon Department strives to apply sound decision-making principles to agricultural and other natural resource-based ventures and to the development of our communities. Our researchers are top educators who work in the areas of firm profitability, market performance, environmental quality, natural resource use, and government policy.
