The American Heritage Center (AHC) is an archive and research facility and is a separate
entity from the Art Museum. The Art Museum collects and preserves only fine art objects
and artifacts, with a primary focus on exhibitions, including contemporary art.
Photography in the galleries will be allowed on portable handheld devices only. Photography
intended for reproduction will be permitted by the lender for purposes of promotion
and / or publishing in conjunction with the exhibition only. Flash photography is
prohibited in order to protect the art.
For select exhibitions, a free audio tour is available to museum visitors through
their cell phone. Usually recorded by either a curator or an artist, the tours provide
additional information about the works on view. The tour is accessed by dialing a
phone number from your cell phone. Each work of art has a number assigned to it that
when entered into your phone will start the audio clip. Handouts are available online
as well, so you can listen to the audio tour even if you aren’t at the museum. The
flexibility of using your cell phone allows you to listen to all, some, or none of
the information and in no particular order.
The majority of public programs hosted by the Art Museum are free and you don’t need
a ticket, you can simply show up. Our opening receptions, held in the spring, summer,
and fall, are also free and open to the public.
The Art Museum does not have a list of appraisers or conservators. You may search
for an appraiser or conservator by visiting the websites below.
The Art Museum Exhibitions Review Committee meets quarterly to review all exhibition
proposals that are received. Details about what to include in your proposal
can be found on our website.
The UW Art Museum's terrace is available, along with our lobby, galleries, and resource
