Curate a unique educational experience
Curricular materials and lesson plans that accompany each exhibition are available.
These materials provide teachers and other educators with activities and assignments
to help engage groups before, during, and after a museum visit.
For more information or to schedule an educational experience, contact the UW Art Museum education team at uwarted@uwyo.edu.

pre-k
Museum tours help preschool through kindergarten-aged students develop discovery and exploratory skills. Each visit is tailored to the age and developmental needs of the students. Learning basic concepts like line, color, shape, and sorting prepares children for reading and pre-math. Creative art-making processes, like those provided in our museum studio, develop important fine and gross motor skills. During their visit, children also engage in material exploration and discussion that stimulates cognitive development.
Additionally, a visit to the museum allows students to interact with other children
and adults and to learn acceptable behavior in public community settings. Many preschools
choose to visit the museum regularly, working closely with the Master Teacher to design
sequential activities that build student development.
In addition, we offer an out-of-school time pre-k learning experience for children aged 3-5 and their parents or caregiver, called Art Explorers.
k-12
Teachers of K – 12th-grade students can request a school group visit that will consist of both gallery time and studio time. The education team works with teachers to design tours that address specific classroom goals and standards in art, writing, science, social studies, math, and more. The UW Art Museum is also happy to host home-school groups.
university and college
Our team of curators and educators specializes in making the world come alive through art and objects. Visit our Academic Engagement page to view options for university faculty and instructors from all academic disciplines to engage with our collection. A customized class session in the art museum is a great way to integrate active learning strategies, observation skills, and creative thinking into the student's educational experience. We offer engagement options that accommodate both virtual and in-person learning. Neighboring community colleges are always welcome! If you have questions, please contact Alex Ziegler.
family
Families are encouraged to attend our monthly art-making program Art Buffet, on the first Saturday of every month during the spring and fall semesters. The projects designed for Art Buffet offer opportunities for learners of all ages and developmental stages to engage at their own level. Families and friends enjoy discussing the work in our galleries, working together, and encouraging each other during this monthly program.
public engagement
The UW Art Museum regularly hosts public artist talks, workshops, tours, and events.
Please refer to the Public Programming page for information on upcoming activities.
Community organizations are invited to participate in any of our offerings or request
a specific learning experience to meet their needs. In the past, UWAM has hosted The
Sierra Club, The Girl Scouts of America, Laramie Public Arts Coalition, UW’s Gear
Up and High School Institute summer programs, and many more community partners. Contact Will Bowling to see how we can accommodate your group, organization, or club.
The UW Art Museum is proud to partner with the Laramie Public Art Coalition (LPAC).
LPAC’s mission is to enhance and contribute to the unique cultural vibrancy of Laramie
and Albany County by creating opportunities for artists and fostering community engagement
through public art, exhibitions, special events, and educational programs.
