A UW alumna, Caitlin Long, will speak at our Lunch and Learn series about how blockchain
technology and "smart contracts" will change all of our lives for the better by using
technology to establish
trust, thereby removing the need to trust institutions and decentralizing power. Blockchain
will improve how
we interact with each other, with institutions, and with governments. It also solves
a pervasive problem that
afflicts many sectors of the economy, including financial services, healthcare, government
and supply chains:
parties waste resources by duplicating the very same information, which they then
must reconcile with each
other. This new technology will de-duplicate, automate and streamline workflows in
many parts of the economy.
About the Speaker. Caitlin Long is chairman and president of Symbiont, the leading smart contracts platform for institutional uses of blockchain technology and winner of Waters Technology's Award for Best Distributed Ledger Project in 2016 (Buy-Side Technology Awards). Caitlin previously spent 22 years on Wall Street as a managing director in senior roles, working for Morgan Stanley (2007-2016), Credit Suisse (1997-2007) and Salomon Brothers (1994-1997). Caitlin has been active in bitcoin since 2012 and blockchains since 2014, and she served on Morgan Stanley's internal blockchain working group in 2014-16. She is a graduate of Harvard Law School (JD, 1994), the Kennedy School of Government (MPP, 1994) and the University of Wyoming (BA, 1990). A Laramie native and active UW alumna, Caitlin served two terms on the UW Foundation Board and served many years on the Board of Visitors of the College of Arts & Sciences.
