Community Outreach

About us:

The University of Wyoming ASCE chapter not only prides itself in excelling in academics, but also in excelling our community. Our members participate in many different Outreach Activities in the local communities ranging from Trick-or-Treating for food items, to teaching our youth about Engineering, Math, and our college. It is not only a great way to give back to our community, but a great way to promote what we do, who we are, and of course, Civil Engineering.

Lab School Presentations

Last semester, our student members participated in helping the underclassmen at the local junior high school learn about the different aspects to Civil Engineering. There were five different presentations with accompanying lab experiments. Professor and Faculty advisor Ryan Kobbe oversaw the presentations.

Webelo Scouts, Year 2

On November 26, ASCE teamed up with ASME to help more webelo scouts earn their engineering merit badges. Webelos Scouts is the highest level in Cub Scouts to be completed before boys can join a troop in the Boy Scouts of America. Both societies planned an activity related to their engineering field that fulfills a requirement for the Webelos Engineering Badge.

Safe Treat

This year on Halloween, ASCE helped out with Safe Treat at the Wyoming Union. Safe Treat is a ASUW sponsered event in which socieities across the university set up a table with games, and hand out candy to trick-or-treaters on Halloween. We set up three sets of "Jenga" towers for the children to play to recieve candy.

The Webelo Scouts

This October, ASCE teamed up with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) to host an event to help local Webelos Scouts earn their engineering merit badge.  Webelos Scouts is the highest level in Cub Scouts to be completed before boys can join a troop in the Boy Scouts of America. 

Each society planned an activity related to their engineering field that fulfills a requirement for the Webelos Engineering Badge.  The event was held on Wednesday, October 12, at 6:00 PM in the Engineering Building and concluded with an ice cream social.

*To teach the Webelo's about Civil Engineering, ASCE memebers set up a Surveying project in room EN 3111. The Webelos' used a surveying tape to measure the room and then used those dimensions to create a floor plan.
