Bryan Ray
Chemistry Alumni
My name is Bryan Ray and I am currently the Project Manager for SERS products at API Technologies. I have taken my education in Raman spectroscopy and surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) from the University of Wyoming and applied it to the development of SERS substrates and applications. I am currently both working in the lab and on business side to design and release new SERS products. I am directly responsible for the development new SERS substrates in the lab by applying photolithography techniques to create new novel nano-structures. Using these well defined techniques we are able to produce a quality and reproducible SERS substrate. Many hours are spent of verifying the quality of the products using different spectroscopic techniques. Once the substrates are verified I am also responsible for creating applications such as in food safety with a melamine in milk test and in security with ambient TNT detection. We are also combining SERS with unmanned aerial vehicles that can be used to monitor environmental exhausts from industrial factories. Working in a small project center I am also responsible for developing marketing campaigns and sales strategies for our products. It is very rewarding to see something you developed go from an idea, to product and then into the hands of other researchers.
When I am not at work I enjoy the outdoor life with hunting, fishing, and hiking, which are just a few of many things I enjoyed while at the University of Wyoming.
