An M.A. in communication offers coursework in rhetorical, critical/cultural, and social scientific perspectives and methodologies. The program offers two primary directions for your degree: Human Communication and Media Communication.

The program is structured to be completed in two years, but is flexible depending on students’ circumstances. Required classes are completed in the first year, while the second year is used to develop and complete the thesis or project.

A graduate assistantship is a student employment opportunity for graduate students. Graduate assistants work on average 20 hours per week and, in return, are provided with a monthly stipend plus a remission of tuition and fees. COJO offers graduate assistantships in public speaking, media writing, PR/marketing, debate, and research.

No, credits earned at other graduate schools may not be transferred into the program.

Yes, it is possible to be a part-time student. However, it is advisable that you contact COJO’s Graduate Director Dr. Chia Fang "Sandy" Hsu at hsus@uwyo.edu if you are applying to study part-time.

To apply, a student has to submit an online application and all necessary documents, including specific requirements for international students. While the deadline is June 15, we recommend filling out the application earlier, especially if you plan on applying for a graduate assistantship.

A minimum of 3.0 GPA is required.

If you are applying for a graduate assistantship, you can expect a response by the third week of March. All other applicants will be considered on a rolling basis if they apply by June 15.

A non-refundable application fee of $50.00 is required to apply.

The GRE is no longer required for graduate assistantships or any portion of the application process.

GRE/TOEFL reporting code is 4855.

An English proficiency exam is usually not required if you obtained a degree from a U.S. institution or an institution with English instruction within one year of becoming a graduate student at UW. Otherwise, international students need to provide a proof of their English proficiency.
