Biography

Dr. John Heim is an experienced leader in public education with over 30 years in school administration and advocacy. He earned a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Kansas State University, a master's in educational leadership from Fort Hays State University, and a BS in Secondary Social Studies Education at the University of Kansas.  and has served in key roles, including Superintendent of Schools in Emporia, Kansas, Executive Director of the Kansas Association of School Boards, and CEO of the National School Boards Association. His work has focused on improving student achievement, particularly in reading and math, equitable education funding, and effective school governance. Dr. Heim has worked closely with lawmakers to shape education policy at both state and federal levels. His contributions have been recognized with honors, such as Kansas Superintendent of the Year and Alumni of the Year at Kansas and Kansas State Universities. In addition to his leadership roles, he has taught educational leadership at Emporia State University and Wichita State University.  In his role as Assistant Lecturer at the University of Wyoming, he is teaching Leadership for School Organization, Internship in Educational Administration, Education Leadership for Instruction, Education Leader as a Change Agent, and Education Leader as Resources Manager. Dr. Heim's research interests include enhancing school governance and promoting equitable access to quality education.
