Josh Males

Josh Males is an assistant professor of mathematics education outreach in the Science and Mathematics Teaching Center at the University of Wyoming, with a tenure home in the School of Teacher Education. His work centers on partnering with Wyoming schools and districts to support mathematics teachers and the people who lead them.

 

Before coming to Wyoming, Josh spent over a decade as the K–12 mathematics curriculum specialist for Lincoln Public Schools in Nebraska, where he was responsible for curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning for the students and teachers of mathematics in Lincoln. That work followed fifteen years in secondary mathematics classrooms — in Nebraska, Michigan, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Hawai‘i, and London — where he also chaired mathematics departments and mentored student teachers. He has taught graduate and undergraduate courses at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln since 2013.

 

His research looks at how instructional leaders — principals, coaches, and teacher leaders — support teachers in examining participation patterns in classroom mathematics discussions and making those discussions more inclusive. 

 

Males serves on the board of directors of NCSM: Leadership in Mathematics Education, has chaired NCTM's Research Committee, and served as vice chair of the REL Central Governing Board.
