Stella Rios Nowell is an assistant lecturer at the University of Wyoming with a focus on Elementary Literacy for the School of Teacher Education under the College of Education.
She taught in elementary schools for eighteen years in Arkansas, Colorado, and Wyoming. Additionally, she was a Professional Development Program Manager and trained educators and Great Minds Fellows in literacy content and best practices for leading professional development. She certified as a National Board Certified Teacher in 2009 and then recertified in 2019. She was selected to with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards to co-create the second edition of the Literacy: Reading-Language Arts Standards for teachers of students ages 3-12. She also served as a NBPTS candidate support provider in Wyoming. Mrs. Nowell is passionate about multilingual learners and language acquisition. She is continuously building her experience and expertise with a drive to understand how multilingual learners acquire reading and writing in their native language. She is enthusiastic to engage with future educators of literacy and is grateful to be back at the University of Wyoming.
