Grasshoppers of Wyoming and the West
Entomology
Brownspotted Grasshopper
Psoloessa delicatula (Scudder)
Psoloessa delicatula, the brownspotted grasshopper, is common throughout the rangelands of Wyoming. It
prefers grasslands with areas of barren soil. Eggs are laid in the soil in late May
and June. Hatching starts in mid July, and nymphs overwinter. Adults can be found
from late April to August but are most common in May and June. This grasshopper feeds
on grasses. It can be numerous enough to damage grasses, but damage is usually not
serious because of its early-season occurrence and small size.
