Shelby Hutson

Biography
Hello! My name is Shelby Hutson. I feel very fortunate to teach in LeaRN and for the
Bridge program. I’m originally from Worland, Wyoming; it is here that I first believed
I would want to pursue teaching as a full-time profession. However, this inkling was
not officially my vocational track until I became a writing tutor at my alma matter,
CSU-Pueblo. While pursuing an English degree at CSU-Pueblo, I worked at the Writing
Center. I loved the 1-1 interaction with tutees and the everyday discussion of rhetoric
and writing. After graduating from CSU-Pueblo, I pursued a master’s in English with
an emphasis in Rhetoric and Composition from the University of Wyoming. After returning
to my home state, I knew I would love to continue teaching, researching, and learning
at UW. While here, I’ve mostly taught first-year courses (English 1010 and First-Year
Seminar). I feel very lucky to teach young and budding students—they are eager to
find their paths and I’m grateful that I get to be a part of that journey.
My every day usually includes a walk/run with my dog, Stella, and my partner, Zach.
Beyond that, I love to listen to good podcasts, watch the latest Star Wars movie,
and work on our small videography business.
