Treva Sprout Ahrenholtz, Senior Lecturer, Family & Consumer Sciences: Design, Merchandising, and Textiles -- Interior Design

Introduction

Treva Sprout Ahrenholtz is a Senior Lecturer in the Design, Merchandising and Textiles program unit. Treva teaches the interior design curriculum and brings more than 30 years of professional interior and apparel design experience to the classroom. In addition, she works with her husband in his design and construction business, so brings extensive knowledge of contracting and building methods and systems to lectures and assignments. Her interior specialty is small space design and she enjoys the challenge of transforming any space to meet multiple functions in unique and interesting ways. Closely following this specialty is her love for redeeming and rehabilitating spaces that others might pass over; she is drawn to a rundown building like a moth to a flame. A true crossover designer, Treva has also worked extensively as a professional seamstress, designing and creating hundreds of bespoke garments for clients. Treva teaches classes in both residential and contract interior design, applied design, design communication, professional interior practice, and housing.

Personal and Business Interests

I have so many hobbies that I enjoy, it's hard to name them all. I really love being creative and fixing things--except people--I've learned most really don't appreciate it no matter how good your intentions. On any given day one can generally find me with either a paintbrush, scissors(I try not to run with them), or hammer in my hand.  In fact, a friend once remarked that he thought I might not be happy in Heaven without rooms to remodel or buildings to design.

In addition to my teaching appointment, I run my own business designing, constructing, and altering clothing and providing consultation or custom made items for the interior design of rooms. I am also actively and joyfully involved in my church and community. Besides my zeal for design, I love to travel--especially to exotic or adventure filled places.

One of the most rewarding things that I have done is travel around the world for a summer. I just hopped on a plane by myself and saw the world--I recommend it for just about anybody. My adventures took me into the jungle riding on elephants, bartering for fabrics in crowded markets, canoeing in crocodile and hippo infested waters, and getting tossed around in a raft on the wildest river I have ever seen. I am happy anytime that I am out enjoying nature and God's creation.
