Managing critical wildlife species in vast and dynamic landscapes, such as those in
the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, presents an ongoing challenge that requires extensive
collaboration. To facilitate these essential conversations, the University of Wyoming’s
Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources invites conservationists, managers,
and researchers to the Managing Wildlife on Large Landscapes Conference, taking place October
1-2, 2025, at Snow King Resort in Jackson, Wyoming. Temple Stoellinger, co-director
of the Gina Guy Center and lead organizer of the event, will help guide conversations
on innovative strategies for managing wildlife across complex and expansive ecosystems.
Large ecosystems worldwide are under growing pressures from climate change, human-wildlife conflict, and land-use changes. Because of the global scale of these issues, this conference will address conservation efforts in some of the world’s most iconic landscapes, including the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (North America), Amazon Basin (South America), Sápmi (Lapland, Scandinavia), African Savannah (Southern Africa), European Alps, and Gobi Desert (Mongolia).
Interdisciplinary experts, both locally and internationally, with knowledge of these diverse landscapes will exchange insights on common conservation challenges and solutions, creating a reciprocal learning experience for attendees.
The Managing Wildlife on Large Landscapes Conference not only will cover a variety of prominent locations but also will focus on several critical topics. Key themes promoted in the event include adapting to biophysical and socioeconomic change, collaborating with Indigenous and local communities, addressing human-wildlife conflict, and navigating conservation across political and jurisdictional boundaries.
The event welcomes additional support from foundations and donors who are interested in fostering the exploration of innovative approaches to large-land wildlife management globally. Interested individuals should contact the conference organizers of this event, Temple Stoellinger or Jacob Hochard. For more details regarding becoming a sponsor, travel information, or registration updates, visit the conference website. Additionally, a conference agenda is anticipated to be posted soon.
