CV

Caryn Schreiber is an Assistant Professor of Law and the Director of the Civil Legal Services Clinic at the University of Wyoming College of Law. Schreiber’s scholarship examines the practical functioning of laws that primarily affect poor people and focuses on the intersection of these laws with race, disability, and the ability to access legal systems.

Prior to her appointment, Schreiber was a Visiting Assistant Professor and Director of the Housing Advocacy Clinic at Rutgers Law School in Camden, NJ. At Rutgers, she led the Housing Advocacy Clinic’s pivot towards tenant advocacy, developing a program that serves and supports low-income renters in South Jersey through direct representation, policy advocacy, and community education efforts.

Previously, Schreiber worked at the Legal Aid Society of New York City. As a staff attorney in the Civil Law Reform Unit, she focused on housing law and policy during the Covid-19 pandemic, the rights of supportive housing residents, and source of income discrimination. She also worked in Legal Aid's Brooklyn Neighborhood and East New York offices as a staff attorney in the Housing Justice Unit-Group Advocacy Project. There, she represented tenant groups in affirmative litigation to improve housing conditions and prevent harassment and displacement, and supported tenant groups seeking to build collective power and assert their rights outside of court.

Professor Schreiber started her legal career as a staff attorney in the New York Legal Assistance Group's Storm Response Unit, where she worked with tenants and homeowners living in housing impacted by Superstorm Sandy.

Teaching: Civil Legal Services Clinic; Professional Responsibility.
