Laptop Recommendations
The following suggestions are only for your reference so that you can take full advantage
of the technology and support available at the College of Law during your whole stay.
You are free to purchase any brand/model you like, but the bottom line should be to
get the best laptop that your current budget can afford so that your three years here
can be the most tech-trouble free experience.
Also make sure to explore all financial avenues that may be available to you when
it comes to buying a computer for college. Some computer manufacturers such as Dell
have a discounted price for students, so do not forget to mention to the sales rep
that you are a UW student. The UW Financial Aid Office also offers a student loan
to purchase a laptop; you may want to talk to them for details.
Based on the information available today, the following minimum specifications are suggested:
- Core 2 Duo 2.0-2.3 GHz processor or compatible
- 80 GB Hard Disk or bigger
- 2.0 GB of RAM (needed for Vista or Windows 7)
- DVD/RW Drive
- Integrated Ethernet Card and Wireless network card
- Integrated Sound Card
- Battery
- Three years parts/labor Warranty
- No Floppy Drive required since the USB Flash Drives are currently more used than diskettes.
- No need to pay for Office 2007 or Anti-Virus since UW provides them to all enrolled students.
