The department invites students to immerse themselves in the German language and culture by travelling abroad. The German summer study abroad visits several cities in Germany during a four-week period. Students earn credit for a German minor or a European Languages major with a focus in German.

Program details

When: Summer - 4 weeks

Where: Germany

Classes: German conversation for 3 credits and a special independent study (taught in English) for 3 credits.

Cost: Approximately $4000. Covers all lodging, three meals a day, entry fees, transportation for scheduled outings, and in-country travel.

Other uncovered costs: Tuition and fees for 6 credit hours, flights to Germany from the US, passport fees and any applicable Visa fees.

Application deadlines: Application due December 1st. $1,000 non-refundable deposit due January 1st. Final payment billed April 1st.

Scholarship support

The following list of scholarships is not comprehensive. If you need support to study abroad, please contact UWYOAbroad for more information.

  • The Gilman Scholarship ($5K) has reopened. Anyone who qualifies for a Pell Grant can apply (https://www.gilmanscholarship.org/).
  • The Cheney Scholarship. Most UW students qualify for it. You need to fill out the information on WyoScholarships (https://uwyo.academicworks.com/).
  • The AATG Study Abroad Scholarship for College Students ($1250) is available to anyone wanting to study abroad in a German-speaking country (https://www.aatg.org/study-abroad-grant).
  • There are also a number of scholarships for German minors, if you are considering adding one.
