Mary Harris
Native American Education, Research & Cultural Center
Project Coordinator Senior

Mary Harris is a member of the Northern Arapaho and Bishop Paiute tribes and grew
up on the Wind River Reservation. She graduated from Wyoming Indian High Schools in
2020 and immediately began her higher educational journey at Central Wyoming College,
where she earned an Associates of Science degree in winter 2022. She then transferred
to the University of Wyoming, completing her Bachelor's in Kinesiology and Health
Promotion in winter 2024.
As a first-generation college student, Mary understands the challenges that Native
students often face when navigating higher education systems. From managing financial
aid to registering for classes, she had to figure out many of these processes of her
own. That experience inspired her to serve a role where she can support and guide
other indigenous students through similar transitions. As the Project Coordinator
at the NAERCC, she is dedicated to creating culturally grounded spaces, building strong
student relationships, and fostering success for Native American students at UW.
A fun fact about her; she flew on a plane for the first time and, in that same year, visited both Canada and Italy—where she had the opportunity to study abroad in Italy.
