PhD Candidate in Condensed Matter Physics, Physics and Astronomy Dept.
I left the hot and humid weather of the South for the frigid arctic awesomeness of
Wyoming and surrounding Rockies, in order to pursue my passion for Physics and science.
I haven’t looked back since and don’t plan on going back anytime soon. I am so glad
to be a part of such an awesome program, EE Nano Tech, and be able to share my passion
for science alongside such great grad students. In my spare time I enjoy rock climbing,
mountaineering, and sky-diving, really anything to get my blood pumping. I am an avid
firearm shooting enthusiast. I basically love anything that scares the willies out
of me. I look forward to what the future holds for me and my family.
PhD Candidate in Chemistry
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here in Wyoming so far. I moved to Laramie to enjoy
all the outdoor recreation this beautiful state has to offer. I now enjoy snowboarding,
hiking, backpacking, jogging, and playing sand volleyball, two of which (snowboarding
and backpacking) I just started when I moved here! I strongly believe students in
Wyoming have great opportunities here with more attentive programs like this one and
great science facilities they can take advantage of when they come to UW. As a high
school student, I got most of my encouragement and passion for science from my teachers.
I hope to help students find their passions for science and engineering and present
the fulfilling careers they could enjoy, if they want them. I think being able to
talk to different people about STEM topics keeps me interested and optimistic for
the future. I also think active hobbies are a great way to stay healthy and happy
and we should all try to make time for them outside the classroom or research lab!
PhD Candidate in Chemistry
I grew up in Texas and graduated from Louisiana Tech, so my first pick for grad school
was obviously going to be Wyoming. I’ve survived my first winter here, and I think
I’ll stick around for a bit. I love the area, the school, and the department. My Ph.D.
project focuses on specialized nanocrystals and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. The EENano
program is a great chance for me to share my enthusiasm for science, which I hope
to continue sharing as a teacher after I finish my degree.
MBA and Masters of Petroleum Engineering Candidate
While getting my MBA and Masters in Engineering has been a huge academic goal of mine,
I am quite new to the field of Nanotechnology. I am greatly looking forward to being
able to give back some scientific and real world knowledge to the Wyoming schools.
My family and friends are very important to me, and I try to spend as much time with
them as I can. Something that I love to do in my spare time is travel! Having taken
amazing opportunities that were presented to me, I've managed to backpack around the
world. I have spent time in Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, China, Japan, Australia,
France, and pretty much all of Europe! I'm a bit of an adrenaline aficionado, and
love bungee jumping, SCUBA diving and skydiving! Running with the Bulls in Pamplona,
Spain will get anyone's heart pumping! Having left the state of Wyoming for both work
and leisure, I have truly come to appreciate the wonderful qualities that are virtually
unique to the area. You don't know what you have 'till it's gone, or in this case,
until you leave Wyoming.

Masters Candidate in Chemical Engineering
I believe education is the most important tool in ones belt, and true education is
a cycle beginning with the gift of a bit of knowledge. With knowledge comes questions.
The pursuit of the answers to these questions yields greater knowledge, and in turn
greater questions. In my eyes, the end game of education is not to know everything
there is to know- for this is impossible. The true goal of education is to give the
student the thrill of discovery, and to instill in the student the desire to keep
feeling chasing thrill. I have been lucky enough to receive a high quality education,
and I am excited to begin my experience on the other side of the classroom.
MBA and Masters of Petroleum Engineering Candidate
I am a Wyoming native. I love outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, and hiking.
After being out of the state working for the last three years I am very excited to
return to the University of Wyoming and continue my education. I enjoy playing and
watching sports especially football and basketball. I think my unique combination
of education and work experience will be a valuable addition to the EE Nano program
as well as the local Wyoming students.
