This spring semester, the University of Wyoming introduces its Winter Welcome program Thursday, Jan. 16, to aid new students as they arrive at UW.
Winter Welcome, led by the Student Success and Graduation Hub, is designed to introduce incoming students to college life. New full-time students enrolled for the spring semester can participate in the daylong program, where they will learn what to expect in a college classroom, how to connect to campus resources and more.
Winter Welcome will be open to first-time college students, as well as transfer students, and is free to all who participate. Students can register for Winter Welcome here.
Here are a few student benefits to expect from attending Winter Welcome:
--Build your community: Form a tight-knit community before the first day of classes by connecting with fellow students, Cowboy Coaches, faculty and staff.
-- Academic preparedness: Equip yourself with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the classroom. And, just in case, work with UW’s premiere faculty and support staff.
-- Campus familiarity: Experience guided tours and activities that will help navigate the campus. Discover the best study spots, places to unwind and essential facilities.
-- Personal growth: Students will step out of their comfort zone and try new things, whether it’s joining a winter sports club, attending UW events or exploring the stunning winter landscapes around Laramie.
-- Support and resources: From academic advising to mental health resources, students will find everything they need to thrive during their time at UW.
Students who participate in Winter Welcome and have signed a housing contract also have the option of participating in early move-in Wednesday, Jan. 15, at no additional cost. Students can opt in to this option during the registration process.
While Winter Welcome is only scheduled for the day of Jan. 16, there also are a few post-program activities that students can enjoy. On Friday, Jan. 17, Cowboy Coaches will hold an all-day drop-in session, where they will offer personal campus tours, advice for student success and more.
Students also are encouraged to attend New Student Rec Fest at Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center Jan. 17 and the Border War men’s basketball game against conference rival Colorado State University Saturday, Jan. 18, before the spring semester begins Tuesday, Jan. 21.
