Academic Advising for the Basic BSN Program with Advisor Debbie Shoefelt

Academic Advising: Basic BSN

All Basic BSN students are assigned to the Basic BSN advisor for academic advising needs throughout the program. In addition, each student will have an assigned career advisor (see Career Advising).

Exception, all Basic BSN Pre-Nursing students are officially advised through the Advising, Career, & Exploratory Studies Center (ACES).

Advising typically begins around late October for spring semester registration and late March for fall semester registration. Emails regarding scheduling advising appointments will be sent out by the Basic BSN office around that timeframe (see Scheduling Advising Appointments).

Freshman Admit - Basic BSN

All new incoming freshmen are strongly encouraged to attend an orientation session held throughout the month of June. Orientation is mandatory for all first-year students. To register for an orientation session and to learn more go to the Next Steps for Admitted Students: First-Year Students page located on the Office of Admissions website.

We do understand that there are extenuating circumstances and you may not be able to attend orientation. However, please note that advising/registration will not occur until July for those unable to attend an orientation session. For those unable to attend orientation, please contact the Basic BSN Advising Office at (307) 766-4292 prior to July 1 to arrange for advising.

Students declared Basic BSN Pre-Nursing, officially advised through ACES. They are, however, welcome to visit the Basic BSN advising office [Room 335 Health Sciences Center] if they have questions specific to nursing or the non-freshman admission application (see Scheduling Advising Appointments).

Students declared in non-nursing majors, but who are exploring the BSN Program (Basic BSN), are welcome to visit the Basic BSN advising office [Room 335 Health Sciences Center] to learn more about the program (see Scheduling Advising Appointments link in first paragraph). This can also help to ensure they are taking the appropriate pre-clinical courses in preparation of the non-freshman admission application.

Seeking fall enrollment in ZOO 3115 (Human Systems Physiology) in preparation of the non-freshman admission application? Please schedule an appointment with the Basic BSN Advising Office in the spring semester about placement on our spreadsheet for enrollment consideration into the course (see Scheduling Advising Appointments link in first paragraph).

The Office of the Registrar, in conjunction with all undergraduate colleges, operates a computerized degree evaluation system. This includes a degree progress report/advising support system for students that will match completed/current UW course work (including transfer courses) with degree requirements to determine progress toward earning a degree. The Degree Evaluation audit is available to students/faculty advisers through WyoWeb. Refer to Degree Evaluations page on Registrar’s website.

Info specific to School of Nursing re: Student Degree Evaluations

  • Basic BSN advising office routinely works with Registrar's Office to keep Basic BSN Degree Evaluation template current as curriculum changes occur. (This also includes the Basic BSN Pre-Nursing template, keeping it in-sync with the Basic BSN template.)

  • Students should be aware when viewing/printing their evaluation that it may not be 100% accurate. Clearing up discrepancies (e.g., program issues, general transfer credits, etc.) is an ongoing process for the school. For questions/concerns contact Basic BSN advising office.

  • The student has ultimate responsibility to be sure that all requirements are being cleared and satisfied on their Degree Evaluation to be eligible for graduation. Address discrepancies noted with Basic BSN advising office.

  • Log into WyoRecords to declare your graduation date. Instructions can be found on the Registrar's Online Forms and Petitions page for students under “Anticipated Graduation Date”. Submit no later than semester prior to semester of anticipated graduation. Log back in to WyoRecords to notify UW if anticipated graduation date changes.

PERC Information

  • PERC (Personal Electronic Registration Code) is a 6-digit number that students enter to clear the Adviser Approval hold prior to registering for each term.

  • PERC numbers will change every semester. The first time students register for classes each semester, the WyoWeb registration system will prompt them to enter their assigned PERC.

  • Students receive their PERC number at the time of academic advising.

  • If students misplace their PERC number before they register, they should contact their adviser to obtain the number again.

  • Summer Registration does not require a PERC number. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis once the summer registration access has opened (typically early/mid-spring semester).
