Watershed Focus Green River

The Green River is one of three watersheds in Wyoming in WyACT's focus, together with the Snake River and Wind River. They represent the headwaters and upper drainage basins of three major river systems (Snake-Columbia, Green-Colorado, and Wind-Bighorn-Missouri Rivers).

WyACT’s work in the Green River basin ties in with long-standing collaborations between WyACT researchers, UW Extension, Wyoming State Engineer’s Office and The Nature Conservacy on economic impacts of widespread water conservation as well as water conservation program feasibility.

WyACT is currently supporting the climatic, hydrologic, and economic modeling needed to answer stakeholder questions about these topics. Climate modeling is complete, hydrologic modeling nearly complete. Economic modeling will use the outcome of the hydrologic modeling upon completion. In its upcoming project year, WyACT will engage stakeholders with this additional modeling capacity in hand. This work will continue beyond the WyACT grant with sustained efforts of UW centers, UW Extension, and competitive grant funding, building on nearly two decades of interactions with community partners in the Green River basin and the increased integrated modeling capacity now available at UW thanks to WyACT.

This page collects a range of links across the project web presence and external pages that describe WyACT's involvement in Pinedale, Flaming Gorge, and the headwaters of the Colorado River.
