MISSION: BSW Program
Guided by the ethics, values, scholarly inquiry, and practice principles of the social work profession, the mission of the University of Wyoming’s Division of Social Work is to educate and prepare students to become effective, ethical, and competent generalist social workers in health care, educational, human service, and community-based settings, by providing quality learning opportunities for leadership in rural communities and developing skills transferable across various practice settings. Graduates are equipped to navigate complex challenges and to celebrate unity in differences across the state of Wyoming, as well as nationally and internationally.
GOALS
In furtherance of its mission, the Division of Social Work embraces a set of goals that encompass the wide range of faculty activities, students' experiences throughout their academic life, and the collaborative activities among professionals who join in serving our mission. These goals include:
- Educate students for generalist (BSW) and advanced generalist (MSW) social work practice that is especially relevant to rural communities;
- Infuse the ethics, values, scholarly inquiry, and practice principles of the social work profession, and critical thinking, across the curriculum;
- Provide students with intellectual opportunities to engage in meaningful professional relationships, interprofessional collaboration, and professional development;
- Create avenues for faculty and student participation in innovative research and scholarship;
- Provide opportunities for involvement in advancing policy development and action leadership at the local, state, and national levels;
- Engage students in the development of practice skills through community-based work with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities; and
- Facilitate learning opportunities that strengthen students’ understanding of cultures and develop their ability to practice effectively in an increasingly globalized society.
