    The Mission of the MSW program:

    Guided by the ethics, values, scholarly inquiry, and practice principles of the social work profession, the mission of the University of Wyoming's Division of Social Work is to educate and prepare students to become effective, ethical, and competent advanced generalist social workers by providing quality learning opportunities for leadership in promotion of social, economic and environmental justice for diverse populations in the state of Wyoming, nationally, and internationally.

     

    Goals of the MSW program: 

    • Educate students for "frontier" advanced generalist (MSW) social work practice that is especially relevant to frontier and rural communities;
    • Infuse the concepts of social, economic, and environmental justice, grounded in a commitment to human rights and critical thinking, across the curriculum;
    • Provide students with opportunities to engage in meaningful professional relationships, interprofessional collaboration, and professional development;
    • Create avenues for faculty and student participation in innovative research and scholarship;
    • Provide opportunities for involvement in policy advocacy and social action at the local, state, and national levels;
    • Engage students in the development of practice skills through community-based work with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities; and
    • Facilitate learning opportunities to enhance student awareness of diverse cultures and develop the ability to practice in an increasingly globalized society.

    THE STANDARD MSW PROGRAM IS DESIGNED FOR STUDENTS WHO HAVE AN UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE OTHER THAN A BSW DEGREE.

    THE ADVANCED STANDING MSW PROGRAM IS DESIGNED FOR THOSE STUDENTS WITH A BSW DEGREE FROM A COUNCIL ON SOCIAL WORK EDUCATION ACCREDITED PROGRAM.
