Per our contract with the University of Wyoming, Student Legal Services cannot advise anyone with a felony conviction or a felony-level legal issue.
Instead, we provide you with a referral out to programs that may be able to assist you.
Student Legal Services can advise Misdemeanor cases.
Generally, WY Misdemeanors fall into two categories:
Class A: High Misdemeanor, where penalties can carry up to a year in jail or fines between $1,000-$5,000 USD.
Here is a list of Misdemeanor Crimes with a Possibility of Jail Time (2019)
Class B: Low or Petty Misdemeanor, where the penalties range from no jail time to a maximum of 6 months, with fines up to $750 USD.
Misdemeanors include a variety of crimes such as property crimes (theft, trespassing), offenses against a person or public safety (public intoxication, MIP, police interactions), traffic-related (speeding, DUI, drug paraphernalia).
In WY, repeat offenses may lead to a misdemeanor to be elevated to a felony (ex: multiple DUIs or domestic assault convictions).
