Make a Difference With An Adapted Physical Education Endorsement

Physical educators impact the lives of children daily.

Our graduates teach their students about wellness, physical activity and self-care — among other important, health-related topics. UW’s adapted physical education endorsement helps our grads do exactly that for a wide range of students.

The endorsement program prepares our graduates for careers as physical educators who work with children with disabilities and varying levels of physical ability.

About the Adapted Physical Education K-12 Endorsement Program

The adapted physical education certificate program gives students the knowledge and skills they need to become physical educators who work with children with varying levels of physical abilities.

This endorsement includes four required courses and is required to teach students with documented disabilities that require individualized education plans (IEPs). Our program is accredited by SHAPE America and has been approved by the Wyoming Department of Education program review.

You must be enrolled in the Physical Education Teacher Education major to pursue this endorsement.

100% job placement rate

For the last five years, UW’s PETE program has had a 100% job placement rate. This is because our graduates are highly sought after and typically receive multiple job offers. School administrators commonly reach out to our faculty to announce position openings and get insights on candidates.

Adapted Physical Education Program Highlights

Students studying adapted physical education at UW receive a unique, interdisciplinary education that prepares them to make a difference in their communities. Here are a few benefits of the program you’ll experience as a student.

Internship Experience

All students complete a student teaching internship during their time at UW. During the internship, students work directly with multiple adapted physical education professionals to get hands-on experience.

Cohort

Our program utilizes a cohort approach, so students progress through each course with the same group of peers. Cohorts provide a supportive and nurturing environment and help students create meaningful relationships with their peers and faculty.
