About the Adapted Physical Education K-12 Endorsement Program
The adapted physical education certificate program gives students the knowledge and
skills they need to become physical educators who work with children with varying
levels of physical abilities.
This endorsement includes four required courses and is required to teach students
with documented disabilities that require individualized education plans (IEPs). Our
program is accredited by SHAPE America and has been approved by the Wyoming Department
of Education program review.
You must be enrolled in the Physical Education Teacher Education major to pursue this endorsement.

What can you do with an adapted physical education certification?
Many of our physical education teacher education (PETE) grads pursue fulfilling careers as adapted physical educators. Adapted PE teachers work with students with disabilities to teach them about wellness, physical activity and how to incorporate healthy habits into their daily lives.

A special education degree is not required. However, coursework in special education will be part of the program.
This endorsement can lead to a higher salary, depending on the employer. It also enhances competitiveness for specialized and higher-paying roles.
To pursue this endorsement, students must be enrolled in the Physical Education Teacher Education major or have already earned the degree.
