Earn Your Degree and Hands-On Skills at UW

Focus on animal or public health through the interdisciplinary master's or Ph.D. in animal and veterinary science at the University of Wyoming. You’ll learn from UW faculty who are experts in various veterinary medicine and animal science. You’ll have opportunities to obtain research laboratory and field-based research experience with them, as well as government agencies, nonprofit organizations, private and public partners and other academic departments and institutions.

Graduate Animal & Veterinary Science at UW

Through UW’s animal and veterinary sciences graduate programs, you’ll participate in projects in the following areas:

  • Focus on health and infectious disease of wild and domestic species
  • Livestock production and management
  • Animal health and control of zoonosis
  • Wyoming State Veterinary Laboratory (WSVL)

Many faculty have their own granted-supported research projects that students can assist with in the Department of Animal Science and the Department of Veterinary Science. There are additional opportunities for graduate students in veterinary diagnostic medicine at the Wyoming State Veterinary Laboratory (WSVL) that is related to their research projects. There are also research collaborations with the USDA-APHIS, USDA-ARS, Wyoming Game and Fish Department, the National Park Service and allied industries.

Animal and Veterinary Science Graduate Program Highlights

Through the master's and Ph.D. animal and veterinary science graduate programs at the University of Wyoming, you’ll be on the forefront of health and disease issues affecting livestock, wildlife and companion animals and diseases that can be transmitted from animals to people.
