About the Masters in Artificial Intelligence

UW’s master in artificial intelligence is a cutting-edge program that exposes students to unique courses that cover large language models, deep learning for computer vision and robotics, mathematical fundamentals of deep learning and more.

Over the course of this two-year program, students complete research, assistantships and internships that prepare them for rigorous careers in technology. While at UW, students have access to high-performing computing technology in our facilities.

We know that financial assistance and professional experience are key components of a successful graduate school experience. That’s why we offer graduate teaching assistantships and graduate research assistantships with the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences and School of Computing. Faculty members also offer research positions to students who are interested in working on externally funded research grants.

Research Opportunities

AI graduate students have the opportunity to work on exciting research projects, including externally funded research grants from federal agencies, private companies and local startups. Research grants may come from Microsoft, Google, the United States Department of Defense, National Science Foundation and many other organizations.

Internships

After the first year of the masters in artificial intelligence program, many students pursue co-op and internship opportunities with prestigious companies and national laboratories.

As an artificial intelligence student, you’ll have access to local chapters of several professional organizations, including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE), Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) and Tau Beta Pi Honor Society,

Computing Facilities

Students have access to state-of-the-art computing resources for their coursework and research. High-performance computing technology is available at UW’s Advanced Research Computing Center and the NCAR-WYOMING Supercomputing Center.
