About the Drawing Minor
Drawing is the foundation of all visual arts. That’s why our students learn foundational painting and illustration techniques alongside an advanced drawing curriculum. Our program provides students with a solid foundation in observational skills through an investigation of the descriptive and expressive potential of a variety of drawing media. Early courses develop the technical and intellectual understanding necessary to succeed in all the media of visual expression. Upper level classes allow students to extend their drawing abilities through exploration of scale, combined media, concept as well as cross-disciplinary and non-traditional approaches.

Tours of the UW Visual Arts facilities are available to prospective students interested in art and who are curious about how to become involved in the department!
Students pursuing a B.A. in Visual Arts - Art History Track may minor in a studio discipline. However, students pursuing a B.A. in Visual Arts - Studio Art Track, a B.F.A. in Studio Art or a B.A. in Art Education cannot minor in a specific studio discipline, such as drawing. Students should plan on a minimum of five semesters to complete a drawing minor due to upper-division course prerequisites. Please note that all courses require a minimum grade of C to earn a minor.
