Program Requirements
As a museum studies minor, students are encouraged to pursue courses, internship experiences, and study abroad programs that align with their interests.
Students must be pursuing an undergraduate degree to participate in the museum studies minor.
Tracey Eckersley leads UW’s museum studies program. She holds a Master of Museum Studies from the University of Toronto and a Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Louisville.
She has worked in museums across North America and abroad as a curator, exhibition designer, collections manager and educator.
The museum studies minor is greatly valued by employers, and many students work in museums directly after graduation. Others choose to apply what they’ve learned in graduate programs in museum studies and related fields.

Global Experience
Students are encouraged to participate in study abroad programs to broaden their global understanding and perspective. These programs also expose students to the many international career opportunities in the museum world.
Internship Opportunities
All museum studies students participate in an internship that aligns with their particular interests.
Students find a placement by working with the Museum Studies Chair to find the institution and position that aligns with their post-graduation career goals. Upon graduation, many students find full-time employment at the same institution they interned with.
