Music faculty frequently perform, adjudicate, and present research internationally. Dr. Ben Markley led UW’s Jazz Studies Program to Umbria International Jazz Festival in Umbria, Italy and Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City. Dr. John Fadial, Dr. Beth Vanderborgh and Dr. Chi-Chen Wu form the Helios Trio who performed at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in 2022.

Music Performance Program Highlights

Experiential Learning

Students are given many opportunities to take the stage. Numerous ensemble experiences include frequent tours and we’re developing a musical exchange program with the School of Music at Cardiff University in Wales. Experiences help students establish familiarity with their craft.

Ensembles

The Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts is a state-of-the-art facility featuring multiple classrooms and performance spaces, including a 93-seat Recital Hall and a 690-seat Concert Hall. With ample stage and recording spaces, students are prepared to perform.

Tour the Center

Aside from standard scholarships and opportunities for undergraduate students, there are five audition days during which talent-based scholarships are considered. Students can apply for Summer Independent Study Awards as well for special projects.

Summer Independent Study Awards

Students can find fellow performers in groups such as the National Performance Association. There are also countless opportunities to connect with fellow performers and musical companies in ensembles and during travel excursions for performances on international stages.
