Dean Kelly Crane
Dr. Kelly Crane leads the College of Agriculture, Life Sciences, & Natural Resources
at the University of Wyoming with a clear mission: to empower Wyoming’s communities
through high-impact education, research, and outreach rooted in the land-grant tradition.
A University of Wyoming alumnus, Crane holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Rangeland Ecology
and Watershed Management. His career spans decades of leadership in engagement and
translational research in agriculture and natural resource management. He began his
work with UW Extension in 1994 as an Area Educator and Range Specialist, later serving
at the Extension Rangeland Specialist University of Idaho from 2008 to 2011. Upon
returning to UW, he held progressively senior leadership roles, including Associate
Director and then Director of UW Extension, Associate Dean, and Senior Associate Dean.
He was appointed Interim Dean in December 2023 and named Dean in October 2024.
Dr. Crane is a supportive, collaborative leader known for building partnerships, expanding
resources, and encouraging innovative programs that capitalize on Wyoming’s distinct
and unparalleled resources. He led the development and launch of the Ranch Management
and Agricultural Leadership program and continues to champion initiatives that expand
CALSNR’s impact. His work is focused on integrating student success, workforce development,
and community engagement across all aspects of the college’s teaching, research, and
extension missions. Dr. Crane aims for a college which is relevant, responsive, and
accountable to Wyoming.
