Faculty & Advisors

Faculty & Advisors

We have the power to change the lives of our students together. Education Abroad alongside UW faculty and academic advisors can work together to build creative and strategic programs that meet the needs of our students academically and professionally. We have developed a handbook to support UW academic advisors in advising students on program opportunities as well as developing tools to assist faculty in developing and designing programs. As faculty and academic advisors, Education Abroad knows the critical role you play in making sure students understand the value of study abroad and the many opportunities available to them.

Would you like to share more information with your first-year seminar, class, on-campus club or organization, residence hall, or office about studying, teaching, interning, volunteering, or researching abroad?  Have a trained EA staff member or UWyoAbroad Ambassador that has returned from study abroad present valuable information about how to find the right program, how much it costs to go abroad, what scholarships are available, and how to stay on track to graduate on time.

Each presentation can be adapted to cover a variety of topics based on the needs of the classroom session.

Please complete and submit the form below a minimum of two weeks prior to the desired presentation date. A member of the EA staff will contact you to confirm the presentation date and time. We look forward to sharing more about the exciting opportunities abroad for UW students.

Education Abroad (EA) understands the important role academic advisors play in a student’s study abroad journey. The support provided by advisors is a key part of the experience for the student before, during and after their programs. EA has compiled a handbook to provide information and resources to advisors throughout the entire study abroad cycle.

Academic Advising

EA encourages all prospective students to discuss their study abroad plans with their academic advisors as part of EA advising process as this is especially important for helping students determine how studying abroad will fit into their degree programs, which courses to select and how those courses will count towards their degree.

Transferring Course Credit & Grades

Education abroad coursework and syllabi are evaluated by faculty members.  The Office of the Registrar sends course syllabi to the appropriate faculty for review upon completion of a program and receipt of the international transcript.  If a course has recently been transferred back by another student, other students will receive the same credit, based on the earlier transfer. It is the student’s responsibility to provide documentation of their syllabi and coursework to the Office of the Registrar. Students will be reminded of this process by members of Education Abroad and supported with any questions or concerns.

  • All grades for courses completed abroad will be transferred to the student’s UW transcript as earned.  For example, a B earned abroad will be transferred to UW as a B.
  • Overall and Transfer GPAs are affected by the grades students earn abroad, but not their institutional (UW) GPA.
  • The hours transferred from abroad do not count towards the 30 credit residency requirement
