Students collaborating in a lab

The University of Wyoming is one of 24 institutions funded by the National Institutes for Health (NIH) IDeA Networks for Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) Program. INBRE funding is intended to enhance biomedical research capacity, expand and strengthen the research capabilities of biomedical faculty, and provide access to biomedical resources for promising undergraduate students throughout the eligible states.

Administrative Core (AC)

The AC is responsible for developing and implementing the vision for growing the Wyoming network's biomedical research capacity, and supports the other two cores, as well as the Student Program. The AC acheives these goals by:

  • Assuring all WY INBRE funded projects, PIs and students are in compliance with the most recent NIH directives
  • Coordinating communications between WY INBRE network institiutions and
  • Evaluate and report on project progress and student learning outcomes

Developmental Research Project Program (DRPP)

The goal of the DRPP is to build a collaborative interdisciplinary research team among the network institutions to develop and apply new targets and tools to address intractable biomedical problems. DRPP acheives this goal by:

  • Providing an internal mechanism for obtaining and awarding multidisciplinary developmental research projects
  • Reviewing and prioritizing those projects for funding
  • Developing a general mentoring for Primary Investigators and researchers
  • Offering oversight, and evaluation, as well as assuring project's full compliance with all applicable federal policies, rules, and guidelines

Data Science Core (DSC)

The goals of the DSC are to foster data science activities among the network institutions and offer a broad range of services to the Wyoming students and researchers in biomedical and biological sciences disciplines. DSC acheives these goals by:

  • Collaboration: Use our knowledge of informatics tools to aid in experimental design and data generation
  • Training: Train investigators in the acquisition and usage of informatics tools and interacting with the Teton HPC cluster
  • Support: Develop novel workflows for the analysis of ecological and evolutionary data
