County Council 4-H Leadership Retreat

This retreat is designed for your current county council members OR leaders whom you see with potential to move into greater leadership roles in your county 4-H program.  The educational focus of the retreat is on helping county 4-H council members become more effective in their role at a county level. Communication will also be sent from the State 4-H Leaders Council to each County 4-H Council President so they should be at least familiar with it. The training will begin on Friday evening and conclude on Sunday morning.

The State 4-H Leaders Council will cover the cost of lodging and meals for two individuals from each county to participate in the County 4-H Council Leadership Retreat.  The registration deadline is September 15th.  Registration forms will be sent to the County 4-H Council Presidents also.

When you think about how your council functions, what are the areas in which you would like them to be more effective? If you have specific training topics you would like to see offered as part of the County 4-H Council Leadership Retreat, please let me know and I will make sure they get on the schedule.

Here are some ideas on how to recruit volunteers to attend:

  • If you have a council meeting before the registration deadline, select leaders during the meeting who could attend and make sure they receive the registration materials
  • If you don’t have a council meeting before the registration deadline, pick up the phone and visit with your County 4-H Council President. If your council president isn’t able to attend, it will be easier for you to brainstorm potential leaders together.
  • Market it as an award trip - use this as an award for leaders in your county whom you want to say “thank you”. You can recognize them and it doesn’t cost your program a dime.
  • This is also a perfect training for those leaders who are entering their re-screening year and are required to attend additional training to be approved as a 4-H volunteer leader for the next 5 years.

If you have questions, contact Carol Whitney, President of the State 4-H Leaders Council, at whitneylivestock1@hughes.net / 307-259-2689 (cell).

If you would like to attend the retreat, please complete a registration form.
