Donations to African American & Diaspora Studies

African American Studies for Student Excellence

This fund was established to provide financial support to declared minors and self-designed majors in African American & Diaspora Studies (AADS).  The award will be given each spring at the annual AADS graduation ceremony.  Applicants must be a full-time student and be a declared minor within AADS, and plan to return to the university the following year.  This scholarship is awarded above any beyond any other monetary compensation a student may already receive from another source.

African American & Diaspora Studies Endowed Speaker Series

AADS seeks financial support to develop an endowed speaker series to enable the program to bring scholars, educators, politicians, artists and others from around the globe to campus.

The Harriet Elizabeth "Liz" Byrd speaker series is named after Mrs. Byrd, a former Wyoming Senator, Representative and educator.  Byrd was the first African American senator of Wyoming and is well loved throughout the region.

The series started with seed money from the President's Advisory Council on Minority and Women's Affairs (PACMWA).  The speaker series is an outreach effort to students, the university and community at large to help teach, reach and learn about the diverse society in which we live.
