Frison Building

Friday May 6, 2022

George Carr Frison was honored with his own Building Dedication on this date. Frison, a University of Wyoming Anthropology Graduate and WWII Veteran, left his legacy on the UW Anthropology Department and the State of Wyoming through his various contributions and accomplishments within the field of Anthropology.

Guest speakers for the Building Dedication included Provost Kevin Carman, Dean Camellia Okpodu, Anthropology Department Head Dr. Todd Surovell, and WYDOT Archaeologist Dr. Julie Francis. Following the guest speaker remarks, the George C. Frison Building Exterior Directory was publically revealed.

Keith Kanbe, a much beloved and long time Department staff member, was honored during the reception afterwards. Graduating seniors from the Anthropology Department's undergraduate class gave their final poster presentations at the Kanbe Memorial Student Poster Symposium. The poster presentations covered a wide range of topics the Seniors had been studying over the course of their final semester as an undergraduate student.

A little over a year later in December 2023, the Office of the Wyoming State Archaeologist (OWSA), revealed the George C. Frison Exhibit on the second floor of the George C. Frison Building. The exhibit highlights much of George C. Frison's life through his various academic and research achievements. This exhibit is apart of the Anthropology Museum which spans all three floors of the building.
