Art History

Offering an understanding and appreciation of humanity’s diverse visuals experiences, the study of art history incorporates architecture, sculpture, painting, craftwork, and graphic media in order to examine the different reasons for the styles and subjects that characterize historical periods.  The study of art history invariably leads to an exploration of the political, sociological and intellectual events that accompany the creation of art.  In their art history coursework, students engage in hands-on research at the American Heritage Center and University of Wyoming Art Museum, creative writing and simulated proposal projects, and presentations using the latest image databases.  All of the courses in art history are applicable to the Minor in Museum Studies.
