ACADEMIC ENGAGEMENT

Academic Engagement Class Visit information

Our team of curators and educators specialize in making the world come alive through art and objects. We offer a variety of options for university faculty and instructors from all academic disciplines to engage with our collection. A customized class session in the art museum is a great way to integrate active learning strategies, observation skills, and creative thinking into the students’ educational experience. We are continuing to offer engagement options that accommodate virtual and in-person learning.

Important things to note:

  • In order to ensure a quality experience, please submit a class visit request form 2-3 weeks in advance.  We will do our best to honor other requests outside this time frame.

  • Please fill out the art experience request even if you plan to do a self-guided visit.

The following in-person and virtual art experiences are meant to provide an overview of available options. Neighboring community colleges are always welcome! If you have questions, please contact Raechel Cook at raechel.cook@uwyo.edu.

In-Person Visit Options

  • Self-Guided Experience
  • Self-guided visits to the museum are an option for students and faculty whenever UWAM is open to the general public. Please make sure to fill out the art experience request form.

  • Guided Experience in the Galleries

  • Guided Artmaking Session in Shelton Studio

  • Guided Collections Visit
  • Work in partnership with the Curator of Academic Engagement and Collections Manager to build a class session that connects your course learning objectives and themes with art from the permanent collection not currently on view.

Virtual Visit Options

  • Guided Virtual Classroom Visit
  • The Curator of Academic Engagement will visit the classroom virtually. Work with the Curator of Academic Engagement to build a class session that connects your course learning objectives and themes to works of art in the UWAM collection. Students will engage with high resolution images of art through close looking and make connections between the art and their coursework.

  • Guided Virtual Collections Visit

This visit option will allow students to look at physical art objects through a HD video camera on Zoom.

  • Work in partnership with the Curator of Academic Engagement and Collections Manager to build a class session that connects your course learning objectives and themes with art from the permanent collection not currently on view. The Curator of Academic Engagement and the Collections Manager will present in the virtual classroom for this visit.

Planning for Future Art Experiences

  • Pat Guthrie Teaching Gallery

Now taking reservations for Spring 2022 and Fall 2022! Exhibitions planning for the teaching gallery begins a minimum of one semester in advance. E-mail raechel.cook@uwyo.edu for more information.

  • Each semester, up to four faculty from any academic discipline may request to use a wall in the teaching gallery and select artwork from our permanent collection that is specific to their course content. Teaching gallery exhibitions remain on view for the duration of the semester. The teaching gallery is intended for classes that will require students to visit the museum multiple times throughout the semester and complete an assignment that incorporates themes, ideas, and content related to the works on view.
